AMERIKANISCHE SERIEN-PODCASTS (IN ENGLISCHER SPRACHE):

ALICE ISN’T DEAD
is a podcast presented as a series of audio diaries by a truck driver in her search across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead (the eponymous Alice). In the course of her search, she encounters not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond her missing wife. The series was created in 2016 by Joseph Fink, and it has been published by Night Vale Presents since March 8, 2016. The main character and narrator, whose name is never mentioned until the final episode of the first season, is voiced by Jasika Nicole.

CRIMETOWN
Every season, this podcast series investigates the culture of crime in a different American city. First up: Providence, Rhode Island, where organized crime and corruption infected every aspect of public life. This is a story of alliances and betrayals, of heists and stings, of crooked cops and honest mobsters – a story where it’s hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys. Hosted by Marc Smerling and Zac Stuart-Pontier.

HOMECOMING
A psychological thriller from Gimlet Media, starring Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, and David Schwimmer. Homecoming centers on a caseworker at an experimental facility, her ambitious supervisor, and a soldier eager to rejoin civilian life – presented in an enigmatic collage of telephone calls, therapy sessions, and overheard conversations.

OFFSHORE
from Honolulu Civil Beat & PRX, is a new immersive storytelling podcast about a Hawaii most tourists never see. In Season 1, “A Killing in Waikiki,” Offshore investigates the violent deaths of two young Native Hawaiians — one in 1932, the other in 2011. The 10-episode series explores issues of race, federal power and policing in America’s most diverse state. If Hawaii can’t figure it out, what hope is there for the rest of America? The answer might surprise you.

RADIOLAB
A two-time Peabody Award-winner, Radiolab is an investigation told through sounds and stories, and centered around one big idea. In the Radiolab world, information sounds like music and science and culture collide. WNYC Studios is the producer of other leading podcasts including Freakonomics Radio, Death, Sex & Money, On the Media and many more.

S-TOWN
is a podcast from Serial and This American Life, hosted by Brian Reed, about a man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks Brian to investigate the son of a wealthy family who’s allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But when someone else ends up dead, the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man’s life.

SERIAL
is a podcast from the creators of This American Life, hosted by Sarah Koenig. Serial unfolds one story – a true story – over the course of a whole season. The show follows the plot and characters wherever they lead, through many surprising twists and turns. Sarah won’t know what happens at the end of the story until she gets there, not long before you get there with her. Each week she’ll bring you the latest chapter, so it’s important to listen in, starting with Episode 1. New episodes are released on Thursday mornings.

STRANGERS
From Lea Thau, Peabody award-winning producer and creator of The Moth Podcast and The Moth Radio Hour, comes her new storytelling baby, Strangers. Each episode is an empathy shot in your arm, featuring true stories about the people we meet, the connections we make, the heartbreaks we suffer, the kindnesses we encounter, and those frightful moments when we discover that WE aren’t even who we thought we were.

THE MOTH
Since its launch in 1997, The Moth has presented thousands of true stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room-only crowds worldwide. Moth storytellers stand alone, under a spotlight, with only a microphone and a roomful of strangers. The storyteller and the audience embark on a high-wire act of shared experience which is both terrifying and exhilarating. Since 2008, The Moth podcast has featured many of our favorite stories told live on Moth stages around the US.

THE TRUTH
is a fiction podcast that seeks to re-imagine what audio drama is and can be. The podcast is released every two weeks. The tagline for the organization is „Movie for your ears“. Stories are developed as a collective where frequently the dialogue is completely improvised. Additionally, recordings are made on location and then taken into the studio to be edited. The Truth stories, while fictional, are often topical and possible. The pilot episode was inspired by the real speech „In Event of Moon Disaster“ written for President Richard Nixon in case the Apollo 11 mission failed.

THIS AMERICAN LIFE

Cecil Gershwin Palmer – the host, main character, and narrator – is voiced by Cecil Baldwin, while secondary characters are sometimes voiced by guest stars – such as Dylan Marron, who voices Carlos. The podcast typically airs on the first and fifteenth of every month, and consists of „news, announcements and advertisements“ from the desert town, located „somewhere in the Southwestern United States.“ In an interview with NPR, Joseph Fink said that he „came up with this idea of a town in that desert where all conspiracy theories were real, and we would just go from there with that understood.“
